Since as far back as Sam can remember his dad had a Wood Lathe. Watching his dad was always fascinating with wood shavings and chips flying revealing the wood beneath the Bark of a log. Sam learned the Basics from his dad and his High School Shop classes added additional interest. Sam retired from a small Municipal Fire Department on the Central Coast of California which made time to pursue Woodturning available.
Classes and Symposiums from noted Woodturners have added to his skills to produce a variety of turnings from toys to hollow vessels.
A move to Cañon City, Colorado not only changed the scenery it also changed the local Wood Species available for Woodturning. Using local Wood for his pieces is his first choice. Using found wood; which might have been headed for landfills, and Nature also provides him with downed wood from weakened or diseased trees. Many times this provides interesting and beautiful wood for turnings.
Sam’s specialty is Individual Turnings of every design; some decorative and some to use daily.
