Learning to paint changed forever the way in which I look at the world. I have experimented with different media, but still prefer watercolor for the freedom and fun of the unexpected results. I love painting: it provides a calm break from my busy life, and there is great satisfaction in creating artworks.
But the fun of new experience and growing friendship has been paramount in enhancing my appreciation of the unfolding of life’s mystery and thus, inspiring my artistic interpretations. In addition, awareness of the vicissitudes of life has awakened in me the responsibility of making the most of every day, every chance, every experience and every opportunity to be a positive influence in the life of another person, and another philanthropic idea.
An inspiration to me is the contrast between the clear, dry climate of Colorado, and the soft, misty landscapes of my native Wales. The complexity of shadows, changing light and color tones, textures and nuances of mood, and other compositional elements are fascinating to me, as essentials of the world of art.
My most recent endeavor, along with friend and colleague Marilyn Felix, has been the publication of our book: Education, The Emperor’s New Clothes. This unique book is a critique of education’s fabric and flaws, peppered with hair-curling comments, original cartoons and insightful quotes. Every parent, teacher and policy maker will be interested to read it. The solutions offered by contributors world wide shout aloud what many dare only to whisper.
