Kathy Mailander is a native of Nebraska, having moved to Colorado with her husband in 1965, and has made her home in the beautiful mountains of the Buena Vista area for 47 years.
Kathy is primarily a self-taught artist, with watercolor being her favorite medium. She began designing jewelry about 3 years ago and fully enjoys the texture, light and color of different stones and the way they go together. She is also proficient in oil, textile, and decorative painting. Never afraid to master a new media, she is preparing to learn Raku to create her own beads.
Kathy has been blessed with a creative spirit all her life, with an ability to see the beauty of God’s creation in her surroundings
Her first success was at age 10 winning the poppy day poster contest. Some accomplishments include a commissioned piece for the historical Waco House in Waco Texas, being part of a historical restoration of the Episcopal Church chapel in Salida, and the Stations of the Cross in St Rose of Lima church in Buena Vista.
Kathy’s work is shown at the Artists Gallery in Canon City, The Courtyard Gallery and Young Again in Buena Vista.
