Joseph Blenderman is a Midwestern native who grew up in Iowa and Nebraska, and has lived in Canon City for the past eight and a half years. He is a four-year naval veteran and has served six years on the Board of Directors at the Laguna Beach, California Art-A-Fair Summer Festival. He has attended workshops held by
Zoltan Szabo and local artist, Tim Owen.
Joseph has an MA in Art Education from California State University at Long Beach, and a combined 44 years of regular and substitute teaching. Joseph has taught all media,
but prefers watercolor and acrylics for his own work.
Joseph’s subjects vary, as do those of most artists, but he often focuses on the
images of the past. Or, those that reveal traces of a colorful, rich,
or productive use by everyday people … Or, small boats and vehicles of all kinds that were once useful and often still are … back alleys, old barns and historical buildings with the character and style of an earlier time and landscapes full of the color and imagery of the west … these are the images that inspire and motivate Joseph..
